In April 2011 the Drug Enforcement Administration and the U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut announced that a West Hartford physician had entered into a civil settlement agreement to resolve allegations that he violated civil provisions of the Controlled Substances Act. The physician agreed to pay $42,500.
The allegations involved 11 prescriptions for Vyvanse and Subutex, both described as Schedule II controlled substances, that the government claimed were outside the normal scope of medical practice because the medications were not dispensed to the individuals whose names appeared on the prescriptions. Additional claims concerned the physician's failure to account for all of the controlled substances purchased and dispensed from the office.
The investigation was conducted by the DEA's Office of Diversion Control in Rocky Hill together with the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection, Drug Control Division. The settlement resolved the civil allegations and did not include a finding of liability.
