A pharmacy technician in Le Roy, Illinois, was accused of stealing controlled substances from his employer and selling them illegally. According to court documents, the drugs included hydrocodone, alprazolam and promethazine with codeine, and officials said he was responsible for diverting over 28,000 hydrocodone pills from the legitimate supply chain into the illicit market.
The case was investigated by the DEA Diversion Unit together with the Illinois State Police, the Southcentral Drug Task Force, the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office, the Carlinville Police Department and the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation's pharmacy division.
He was indicted in October 2021 and pleaded guilty in November 2022 to theft of medical products and possession of a controlled substance with intent to distribute. He was subsequently sentenced on September 7 to 30 months in federal prison.
