A pharmacy technician at a retail chain pharmacy in Exeter, New Hampshire, was accused of stealing at least 300 tablets of Percocet, an oxycodone-based painkiller, between June and December 2012. Exeter police arrested her on December 29, 2012, charging her with felony-level possession of narcotics and misdemeanor theft of narcotics.
According to board case documents, the matter came to the Board of Pharmacy's attention after a loss-prevention investigation by her employer developed evidence that she had diverted controlled substances from the pharmacy's inventory over a six-month period. The board suspended her registration on January 9, 2013, finding that her continued practice posed an imminent danger to life or health pending a hearing.
Rather than appear at the hearing scheduled for January 16, she agreed to voluntarily surrender her pharmacy technician registration. Under the agreement she did not admit the charges, but accepted that the surrender would be considered a disciplinary action and remain on her permanent record. Officials declined to say how the activity came to the attention of law enforcement or what happened to the tablets. The criminal charges remained pending, and she was ordered to stay out of the pharmacy.
