The New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice began investigating a Cumberland County man after learning that he was dealing prescription narcotics. He was employed at the time as a training technician at a state developmental center operated by the Department of Human Services. The Attorney General's release is explicit that there is no evidence he obtained the drugs from his workplace.
Two undercover detectives from the Division's Corruption Bureau and Gangs and Organized Crime Bureau made six purchases of narcotic pain and anti-anxiety pills from him, including oxycodone, hydrocodone and diazepam. On two of those occasions, in February 2011, he sold 80 oxycodone tablets outside a convenience store in Millville. When he was arrested in March 2011, detectives executed a search warrant at his residence and seized approximately 2,600 prescription pills, including hydrocodone.
He was terminated by the Department of Human Services after his arrest. In August 2011 he pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree distribution of a controlled dangerous substance, and on October 28, 2011 a Superior Court judge sentenced him to five years in state prison. He forfeited a pickup truck and a van used in the distribution activity and, as a consequence of the plea, is permanently barred from public employment in the state.
