In July 2016, a non-profit hospital system that operates a network of South Jersey hospitals reported to the Drug Enforcement Administration that 400 tablets of oxycodone 30 mg had been lost or stolen from the inpatient pharmacy at one of its hospitals in Voorhees.

DEA diversion investigators examined the hospital's controlled substance handling. According to the government's contentions in the settlement agreement, from October 8, 2015 through November 2, 2016 the hospital failed to keep an accurate inventory of controlled substances, failed to keep them in a secure location, and failed to properly supervise employees who had access to them.

In December 2021 the U.S. Attorney's Office for New Jersey announced that the hospital system had agreed to pay $150,000 to resolve the allegations that it violated the Controlled Substances Act. The agreement was handled by the office's Opioid Abuse Prevention and Enforcement Unit.

The claims settled are allegations only. The agreement contains no determination of liability by the hospital system or any of its employees.
