A state Attorney General's Office agent accused a pharmacy technician of diverting medication from a health system's mail-order pharmacy in Elysburg, Northumberland County. The drug at issue was solriamfetol, sold under the brand name Sunosi, which is used to treat excessive daytime sleepiness.
Detection started with an inventory audit. The agent wrote that the audit determined 300 tablets were unaccounted for. In response, the pharmacy moved the drug to a shelving unit in clear view of a surveillance camera and began completing a daily count.
According to the affidavit, surveillance footage at 6:52 p.m. on May 8 showed the technician remove an open bottle of the drug and carry it to a workstation outside the camera's view. Pharmacy logs showed the last order prepared by the defendant was at 6:46 p.m. and was not for that drug.
In an interview, the technician said the drug had been wasted, meaning disposed of as unused, expired or excess medication, but the agent noted the video does not show any items being placed into a waste bin. The technician also suggested the bottles may have been combined, which the agent said would have left the overall tablet count unchanged and is not standard practice at that pharmacy. The allegations remain unproven in the account given.
