A pharmacy technician employed by a tribal health care center in Sisseton, South Dakota, appeared in U.S. District Court on November 28, 2011, and pleaded guilty to one count of an indictment charging health care fraud.
According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, between July 1, 2008, and May 8, 2009, the technician stole approximately 10 hydrocodone pills from the health care center. The release does not describe how the missing pills were discovered.
The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Inspector General, and the case was prosecuted by an Assistant U.S. Attorney for the District of South Dakota.
At the time of the release, the technician faced a maximum penalty of 10 years of imprisonment and a fine, and restitution could also be ordered. Sentencing had not yet occurred.
